The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated that motorists driving vehicles fitted with tinted glass must obtain the required permit in line with existing regulations to enhance public safety, security, and effective policing.

The Command made this clarification following an incident in which police officers on duty reportedly rejected a ₦200,000 bribe offered by a motorist who was stopped for driving a tinted-glass vehicle without the required permit.

“Rather than accept the money, the officers maintained professionalism and integrity by directing the motorist to either remove the unauthorised tint from the vehicle or obtain the appropriate permit where applicable,” the Command said in a statement.

The Command praised the officers for their discipline and professionalism, stressing that their refusal to accept the bribe underscores its commitment, under Commissioner of Police CP Nnanna Oji Ama, to enforcing the law fairly and without compromise.

The Command further clarified that the tinted-glass permit requirement is not intended to harass or inconvenience law-abiding motorists, but to regulate tinted vehicles for security purposes, particularly where limited visibility of occupants may pose challenges to law enforcement.

The Command urged motorists to comply with the regulations and avoid offering bribes to evade enforcement, while calling on the public to report officers demanding money and assuring that disciplinary action would be taken against any personnel found culpable.
