“Factory 56” produces the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and the electric EQS on the same assembly line. First opened in 2020, “Factory 56” currently has more than 400 automated guided vehicles (AGVs) deployed to replace the traditional assembly line.

The electric drive components of the EQS, including its battery-pack, are manufactured at the Untertürkheim plant, from where they are delivered directly to the assembly lines at the “Factory 56” plant using automated guided vehicles.

While most of the jobs in the production assembly line at “Factory 56”are done by the robots, workers are still needed to install the front grille, bumpers, electric wiring, screens and the Mercedes-Benz emblem.
