Ford Again Is Recalling More Than 700,000 SUVs And Trucks
Ford has announced two major safety recalls affecting approximately 770,000 trucks and SUVs The first and more significant recall involves 741,195 vehicles, including the 2021 Ford F-150, 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator, 2020-2021 Ford Explorer, 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigator, and 2018-2021 Ford Expedition.
In these models, a potential defect in the transmission valve body separator plate may restrict fluid flow to the park valve during specific shifts, causing the parking pawl to engage while the vehicle is in motion. This can damage critical parking components, rendering the vehicle unable to remain stationary in “Park” without the additional use of the parking brake, thereby increasing the risk of a rollaway incident. A separate recall has also been issued for the Ford Bronco due to issues with improperly manufactured fender flares that may detach from the vehicle.
Ford says it is aware of 24 reports of property damage, 7 reports of physical injuries, and 2 reports of emotional injuries potentially related to the issue.
To address these safety concerns, Ford will deploy updated PCM software to prevent the transmission from executing shifts that could inadvertently engage the parking pawl while the vehicle is in motion. Additionally, technicians will inspect the transmission and replace critical parking components as necessary to ensure safety.
Separately, Ford has initiated a recall for 36,046 Bronco units (model years 2022–2026). According to the recall documentation, improper tooling maintenance by a supplier resulted in incorrectly sized fender attachment holes containing burrs and stray fibers, which can compromise the structural integrity of the fender flares. Owners may observe gaps, sagging, or misalignment as these components lose retention, often accompanied by rattling, clicking, or flapping noises.
