Ford Europe Says Discontinued Fiesta And Focus May Have A Lifeline
Similar to the United States, Europe has its own set of preferences and models that are exclusive to that region, making it a very unique market for automobiles. Additionally, Europe is big enough to set its own policies. Over the years, Ford has emerged as a leading brand in Europe, having been among the first major manufacturers to gain traction there.
It is not surprising that the company has had to make some difficult choices over the years in order to remain competitive, given its history of adjusting to shifting trends. The Ford Fiesta’s demise was one of those difficult choices.
Christian Weingaertner, general director of passenger cars at Ford Europe, openly responded to concerns regarding Ford’s present and future objectives in an interview with Motor1. Why models like the Fiesta and Focus have to be marginalised despite being well-liked in the area was one of the interview’s most pressing questions.
According to Weingartner, the company decided it was better to invest in EV technology at the time because automakers now have to deal with a different reality due to constantly shifting emissions regulations. Additionally, he pointed out that the factory’s production volumes were declining and model fragmentation was increasing, necessitating difficult choices.
He did, however, note that they haven’t ruled out a potential comeback because the Fiesta and Focus are still powerful and popular brand names. He points out that both models have a track record of success in prestigious rallying and touring car race series, which is taken into account when preserving the names for usage in the future.
