Hyundai Recalls Both Ioniq 5 And 9 Over Rear Suspension Crash Risk

A recall order for the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Ioniq 5 has just been released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The rear suspension of the electric SUV appears to need repair because it is loose and could cause collisions.

The report states that certain production dates from Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America must undergo the recall service, and certain production numbers have been marked.

Particular Dates of Production

A recall has been issued for Hyundai Ioniq 9s manufactured between March 25, 2025, and July 23, 2025. The same problem is also causing a recall for Hyundai Ioniq 5s manufactured between December 10, 2024, and July 10, 2025.

The Issue

Regarding the actual production flaw, the impacted Ioniq 5s and Ioniq 9s’ rear suspension “may have been constructed with insufficiently torqued bolts, which might loosen over time and result in noise or vibration.” “The nut and/or bolt may eventually separate from the vehicle and might impair vehicle stability or control during operation if the vehicle is continuously driven in this state without being fixed,” according to the recall notice.

In summary, some Ioniq 5s and 9s may not have had their bolts tightened by the Hyundai factory, which could result in discomfort and even a collision. Having said that, noise emanating from the back of the vehicle when it is operating is one of the early warning indicators.

A field report dated August 1, 2025, was the first to identify the issue. Following investigations and durability tests, the recall order was issued on May 11, 2026. Fortunately, there are currently no known fires, collisions, injuries, or fatalities connected to this recall.
