Mazda Merges Two Of Their SUVs Into One
The Mazda CX-60 is not available everywhere. For instance, Mazda does not offer the SUV in the United States. Instead, the brand has the larger Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 on the menu there. The Mazda CX-90 was unveiled in January 2023; the closely resembling CX-70 arrived a year later. Mazda is now discontinuing the CX-70 and merging it with the CX-90. Excuse me?
On paper, the Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 are different models, but they are essentially the same car. The Mazda CX-70 is the variant with two rows and five seats; the CX-90 has three rows and accommodates seven or even eight occupants. The CX-90 is no longer than the CX-70, so the SUVs also share the same bodywork. There are external differences, however, but these relate to different bumpers, roof rails, and color schemes. Mazda is resolving the discontinuation of the CX-70 by offering the CX-90 with two rows of seats from now on.
The Mazda CX-90 is available with a 280 hp mild-hybrid turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine and is also available with a 323 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a four-cylinder petrol engine. The CX-80 relates to the CX-60 in the same way the CX-90 relates to the CX-70 in the United States. However, the CX-60 and CX-80 are different cars, even though they use the same platform as the CX-70 and CX-90.
