FRSC, Police Impounds 51 Vehicles Without Number Plates In Calabar

FRSC-Civil Defence-Police joint operation impounds 51 vehicles without number plates in Calabar, Cross River.
The joint operation also saw the seizure of 40 motorcycles in Ikom, a busy commercial hub in Cross River State.
Owners of impounded vehicles were not charged but asked to fix their number plates to collect their vehicles.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in conjunction with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has impounded 51 vehicles and 40 motorcycles in Cross River State.
Mr Maikano Hassan, the State Sector Commander of the FRSC, made this known on Wednesday in Calabar.
He explained that the vehicles were impounded in Calabar for not having number plates, while the motorcycles were seized in Ikom.
Hassan said the level of insecurity in the country necessitated the joint operations as hoodlums still moved around to commit crimes with vehicles without number plates.

“51 vehicles have been impounded for number plate offences in Calabar, while about 40 motorcycles were also impounded in Ikom.
Speaking on the impounded vehicles, Hassan said the owners were not charged but were asked to register and fix their number plates before their vehicles would be released.
“We will ensure that the owners fix their number plates accordingly. We will sustain the operation, but after a while, we will give the motorists a breathing space to go and properly register their vehicles and this involves both tricycles and bikes.
“Although, there is a ban on commercial motorcycles in the Calabar metropolis, in Ikom and Ogoja, where they still operate, our men are still doing the same special joint patrol to clamp-down on the vehicles without registration numbers,” Mr Hassan explained.
