Toyota Ends Global Production Of FJ Cruiser After 17 Years
Toyota officially confirms discontinuation of blocky Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV following a 17-year production run.
South African outlet Cars.co.za reports FJ Cruiser was quietly pulled from Toyota South Africa’s consumer site.
When reached, Toyota said it could “confirm global discontinuation of the FJ Cruiser product line as of December 2022.”
Toyota FJ SUV left the American market in 2014 before disappearing from its home country of Japan in 2018.
In Japan, Toyota subsidiary Hino build models shipped to other markets, including Middle East and South Africa.

The production of the Toyota FJ Cruiser off-roader has finally ended in South Africa, Cars.co.za reported this week, which finally ends the global production the blocky SUV that began life in 2006.
Cars.co.za reports that the FJ Cruiser was quietly pulled from Toyota South Africa’s consumer site, and when reached, Toyota told the outlet it could “confirm global discontinuation of the FJ Cruiser product line as of December 2022.”



The outlet in South Africa also reported that the Japanese brand sold just three new FJ Cruisers in the country last month for about 318,000 Rand ($44,750 USD) as stocks began to dry out.
The FJ left the American market in 2014 before disappearing from its home country of Japan in 2018, where Toyota subsidiary Hino build models shipped to other markets, including the Middle East and South Africa.


Toyota first signaled the off-roader could finally be discontinued around the world following the launch of the Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition in the Middle East six months ago.
In its final form, the FJ Cruiser was powered by naturally aspirated 4.0-litre V6 petrol (1GR-FE), which produces 270 horsepower and 280 pound-feet (380 Newton-meters) of torque.
