Jaguar Denies Hybrid Rumors As They Will Stick To EVs Only
JLR has denied reports it will offer a range-extending or hybrid powertrain option for the long-announced Jaguar Type 00, with a senior source calling the idea “nonsense” to Britain’s Autocar.
A report at the weekend, citing a source close to the project’s development, claimed that JLR had instructed engineers to develop a petrol engine system for the new Jaguar GT—the first model in the brand’s redesigned range, which is due to be launched this summer.
The Sunday Times article claims the option will be offered with an electric drivetrain, as JLR bosses have become nervous about relaunching the all-electric brand, given the slowdown in electric vehicle sales, particularly in the premium segment of the market.
JLR first announced its all-electric Jaguar plan in late 2024, with sales of the internal combustion model ending in early 2025.
However, a senior source has now told Autocar that the report is “nonsense” and that Jaguar will be relaunched as an electric-only brand as planned.
In addition, a JLR spokesperson officially stated, “Our plans to reinvent Jaguar as an electric-only luxury car brand remain unchanged. Last month, the passenger-driving prototypes received an extremely positive response from the global media, and we look forward to unveiling the first new electric Jaguar later this year.”
