LASTMA Arrest Mercedes Driver Who Crashed Into A Commercial Bus While Using Phone, Injuring 5 - autojosh

LASTMA operatives arrest Mercedes GLK driver who crashed into a Commercial Bus while using phone, injuring 5.

According to LASTMA, four seriously injured individuals were transported to Gbagada General Hospital.

Following the rescue, LASTMA promptly cleared the two vehicles from the expressway to ensure smooth traffic flow. 

Agency urged all motorists, especially the commercial bus drivers, to avoid using phone while driving.





Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrested the driver of a Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV on Sunday April 28th after ramming into a commercial bus along Gbagada area of the Lagos while using phone.

A statement by LASTMA revealed that five people with varying degrees of injuries were rescued during the crash, including a 3-year-old girl, who sustained a head injury, as well as the bus driver, who suffered fractures in various parts of their bodies.

Preliminary investigation by LASTMA revealed that the driver of the Benz SUV (JJJ 219 XU) lost control while on phone, before colliding with a Volkswagen Commercial bus (APP 46 GZ) parked on the roadside for battery repair.

“LASTMA personnel apprehended the driver of the Benz car (JJJ 219 XU) immediately and handed him over to police officers from Alonge Police Station at Oworonsoki, present at the accident scene,” Mr. Adebayo stated.

“LASTMA personnel promptly cleared the two vehicles from the expressway to ensure smooth traffic flow on Gbagada Bridge towards Gbagada Express Way.”





Reacting to the avoidable accident, Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, extended sympathies to the injured victims and stressed the importance of safety.

He also urged all motorists, especially the commercial bus drivers, to avoid using phone while driving and also to refrain from over-speeding during journeys within or outside Lagos.
