McLaren Set To Pull The Plug On The Artura Just Barely 6 Years

Unveiled in 2020, the McLaren Artura was the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, debuting a custom carbon-fibre chassis designed for electrified performance.

Unfortunately, the model’s release coincided with the global disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in significant supply chain challenges and widespread semiconductor shortages. Consequently, production was subject to repeated delays, and the Artura did not reach the American market until 2023.

McLaren reportedly plans to discontinue the Artura by 2028 amid declining sales and ongoing financial restructuring. According to Automotive News, U.S. registrations fell 18% in the first half of 2026, forcing the brand to shift its focus beyond two-seat supercars toward new models, including a performance SUV.

McLaren is reportedly planning a major shift toward luxury and diversification. Sources suggest a new lineup through 2028, starting with the 810-hp P34 hybrid supercar in 2027, which will feature a premium, F1-inspired interior. By 2028, the brand is expected to launch its first SUV, codenamed P47, and a 2+2 grand tourer to replace the GTS. This transition marks a departure from traditional lightweight supercars, as McLaren prioritizes increased comfort and daily usability alongside high-performance engineering.
