Mercedes Is Phasing Out The Citan And T-Class
Mercedes has officially confirmed the discontinuation of the Citan and T-Class models from its lineup.
According to current announcements, they should be discontinued by the middle of next year. Then, the last compact Mercedes vans will roll off the assembly line at Renault’s Maubeuge plant in France, which also produces their French cousin, the Renault Kangoo.
A Mercedes spokesperson confirmed this information in a statement to Automobilwoche, adding, “In line with the strategy for the growth of profitable segments announced in May 2023, we are making targeted investments and further optimizing our product portfolio.”
This means abandoning small vans and focusing on medium and large models in the future.
The decision was expected given the increasingly weak sales results of these models. According to the publication, Citan sales fell to 23,351 units last year, while T-Class sales fell by 31 percent to 5,117 units.
