Despite Declining Sales, Mercedes’ Quarterly Earnings Grew
Mercedes-Benz announced today that its net profit in the second quarter of 2026 increased by 13.5 percent year-on-year to around 1.09 billion euros, although revenues fell due to weaker sales, primarily in the Chinese market.
At the same time, due to problems in China, Mercedes lowered part of the annual forecast and now expects that sales of passenger cars in 2026 will be slightly lower than last year, while the group’s income will be two to 7.5 percent below last year’s level.
The company’s revenues in the second quarter of 2026 decreased by 3.3 percent, to slightly more than 32 billion euros, while operating profit (EBIT) increased by 21.5 percent, to 1.55 billion euros, Wirtschaftsvohe reports.
A significant decline in China again impacted sales in the second quarter. Mercedes sold around 512,000 cars and vans, a 6% drop compared to the same quarter last year. Car sales in the key market fell by 30%.
The changes in China were partly driven by increased market pressure, a less favorable model mix and costs associated with campaigns to accelerate production, the company said.
