For The First Time, Mercedes Is Using A Chinese Engine In A Vehicle Intended For The European Market
Mercedes has unveiled a new generation 1.5-litre petrol engine for the hybrid CLA, which was developed by the German manufacturer but will be produced in China at the Geely-owned Aurobay plant.
As stated in the question, this is the first engine produced in China that Mercedes will incorporate into its model intended for the European market.
For the first time, Mercedes will produce and install an engine made in China in one of its models intended for the European market. It is about a new generation of engines that will debut in the new CLA model.
Hybrid versions will be powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-liter engine developed by Mercedes, while production will be entrusted to Aurobay in China, which is owned by Geely.
The engine represents the latest technological solution. It has an aluminium engine block, a cylinder head with a partially integrated exhaust manifold, and a turbocharger with a segmented turbine and a variable flow path to direct exhaust gases more precisely towards the turbine.
It is designed according to the Miller cycle, which enables it to meet the requirements of the Euro 7 emission standard.
The new Mercedes CLA will be available with this engine in three power versions, all of which have the electric motor directly integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The basic mild hybrid version develops 136 horsepower, while the most powerful CLA 220 has 190 hp. The fully hybrid version produces 221 hp and 380 Nm of torque.
The price of the new CLA with this engine in Germany starts at 46,300 euros, reports Auto Motor und Sport.
