By 2030, Ford Will Stop Producing Lincolns In China For The US

Ford will phase out Chinese-made Lincoln imports for the U.S. by 2030, shifting production to domestic plants to avoid high tariffs and navigate stricter regulations on Chinese-connected vehicle technology. The Lincoln Nautilus is currently the only model affected by this move.

The company has yet to specify which domestic facility will absorb this production or disclose the anticipated capital expenditure required to increase Lincoln’s manufacturing volume. While a new Ford assembly plant in Tennessee is slated to commence operations in 2029, various reports suggest it as a credible, albeit unconfirmed, location for the production of future Lincoln models alongside previously announced Ford trucks.

Ford will shift production of its Chinese-made Lincoln crossovers to the U.S. by 2030 to avoid tariffs and stricter trade regulations. While the Lincoln Nautilus is currently imported from China, Ford has yet to confirm which domestic plant will take over production or which other models will be affected.

The timeline remains uncertain, as reports indicate a new generation of the Lincoln Nautilus is expected around the 2028 model year, which closely aligns with Ford’s 2030 deadline for phasing out Chinese imports. It is not yet determined if the redesigned SUV will continue to be imported from China for a short period or if production will be transitioned earlier under the new strategy. This is particularly relevant as Ford recalibrates its crossover lineup following the discontinuation of the Escape and Lincoln Corsair to accommodate the production of new electric vehicles and trucks at primary facilities.

Trade policies and stricter tech regulations are forcing automakers to move production from China to the U.S. Ford is shifting Lincoln production by 2030 to avoid tariffs and software restrictions, following a similar move by GM for the Buick Envision. This shift reflects a wider industry trend of relocating manufacturing to North America to ensure long-term viability.
