42,300 Jobs Are Lost In The German Auto Industry

The German automotive industry continued to reduce the number of employees, and at the end of the first half of 2026, 691,500 people worked in the industry, which is 42,300 fewer than a year earlier, or 5.8 percent, according to data published today by the German statistical office Destatis.

According to the latest statistical report released by Destatis, the German automotive sector has experienced a significant downturn in its workforce, with the total number of employees plummeting to its lowest recorded level since 2005.
