The Next-Gen Audi A8 And Porsche Panamera May Share The Same Platform

Porsche and Audi are discussing producing the next-generation A8 at the Leipzig plant, potentially securing the sedan’s future despite no final agreement.

Porsche has confirmed that the two brands are currently in discussions to evaluate potential production scenarios for the Audi flagship sedan, though they have refrained from providing specific details. While reports suggest that Porsche’s Leipzig facility—which currently manufactures the Panamera and Macan—could serve as the production site for the next-generation A8, this remains speculative. At present, the only official confirmation is that Porsche is coordinating with Audi to assess future production strategies; details regarding a potential 2030 launch or a shared vehicle platform remain unverified by either automaker.

Reports from Heilbronner Stimme suggest the next-generation Audi A8 could be produced at Porsche’s Leipzig plant by 2030, potentially sharing an architecture with the Porsche Panamera. While the A8 has long been built in Neckarsulm, its future remains uncertain due to declining European sales for the current model. Neither Audi nor Porsche has confirmed these production plans or linked them to the recent halt in A8 orders.

Porsche and Audi are discussing moving next-gen A8 production to the Leipzig plant by 2030. Utilizing Porsche’s flexible assembly lines and sharing a platform with the Panamera would allow Volkswagen Group to optimize development costs and support diverse powertrain configurations.
