The Porsche Taycan was expected to survive a reorganization at Porsche, but a deadline has now reportedly been set for the model. However, it is certainly not over just yet.

Porsche boss Michael Leiter is clear: things need to change at Porsche. It needs to become smaller and more efficient, and that includes discontinuing models. However, in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Leiter was particularly keen to make it clear that the electric Porsche 718 is still coming and that the Porsche Taycan will also remain. The latter, however, appears to be a bit more nuanced now, as the model is reportedly coming to an end after all. That will just take a few more years. Porsche plans to discontinue the Taycan in 2030. This is reported by WirtschaftsWoche, citing insiders. The German business magazine cites persistently declining sales figures as the reason.

The Taycan, released in 2019, was intended to herald the beginning of a radical change of course for the Stuttgart-based automaker, moving away from the internal combustion engine. However, sales figures are declining: from nearly 41,000 in 2023 to just 16,000 last year and no more than 6,000 in the first half of 2026. According to WirtschaftsWoche, Porsche’s works council has broadly agreed to management’s decision to halt production of the Taycan. Porsche has not yet commented on the report.
