Porsche Boss: “We Cannot Survive In Our Current Form”
Porsche needs to become smaller, more efficient, and more profitable. At the same time, the brand cannot do without the economies of scale of the Volkswagen Group, acknowledges CEO Michael Leiters. In doing so, he immediately confirms and refutes several rumors that were circulating earlier.
Leiters’ message is clear: the brand must, above all, earn more on every car sold, he states in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. That strategy recently bore its first fruit: the number of euros that stuck in Porsche’s financial pockets increased by 34 percent to 1.35 billion euros.
Although Porsche must safeguard its own identity, according to Leiters, the brand cannot do without the Volkswagen Group. In his view, Porsche must not only downsize but also make more explicit use of the technology and financial clout of the parent company. “Porsche cannot survive independently in its current form,” says the executive. He does add the caveat, however, that Porsche always thinks from its own perspective first.
Expansion at the top
In addition, Porsche is working on a new Macan with a combustion engine. This is expected to make a noticeable contribution to revenue and profit starting in 2028 or 2029, Leiters states. He also sees room for expansion at the top end of the range. Porsche is exploring both a model above the Cayenne and an even more exclusive model above the 911. The American market, in particular, is reportedly waiting for this. The executive is not making any further statements regarding these projects at this time.
