Ogun State Governor Launches Electric Bikes And CNG-powered Tricycles
The Ogun State Government has introduced electric bikes and electric and CNG-powered tricycles (Keke).
Says it will significantly reduce the cost of transportation by as much as 40% and also promote a cleaner environment.
2,000 e-bikes will be released in the first phase. Each of the e-bikes can ride up to 75-80 kilometres on a full charge.
Ogun State Govt had earlier launched CNG-fueled buses aimed at mitigating the impact of subsidy removal and high diesel costs.



In a bid to significantly reduce the cost of transportation by as much as 40 per cent and to promote cleaner environment, the Ogun State Government has introduced electric bikes and electric and CNG-powered tricycles (Keke).
Speaking at the launch held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Wednesday, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the scheme is aim to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal and high diesel costs.


He said about 2,000 e-bikes will be released in the first phase, adding that the commercial electric motorbikes can ride up to 75-80 kilometres on a full charge, while the vehicles can travel up to 200 kilometres.
“This event, which falls under the 2nd Phase of our Energy Transition Programme, reflects our commitment to innovation, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment, all part of our “Building Our Future Together” agenda.



“As a responsible government, we aim to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal and high diesel costs, having already led the country in the energy transition by launching CNG-fueled buses.
“Now, we are proud to introduce electric bikes, tricycles, and CNG tricycles, which will significantly reduce transport costs and promote a cleaner environment.
Present at the launch includes the Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Ahmed Alkali, representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL), as well as partners from Spiro Mobility Nigeria Limited and Nigeria Gas & Transport Solutions Ltd.
