Stellantis And Jaguar Land Rover To Collaborate In The US
Today, Stellantis and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced that they have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding “to explore opportunities for product development collaboration in the United States”.
As Motor1 reports, a press release from Stellantis does not describe in detail what the partnership should look like, but the parties will explore “synergies in product and technology development”.
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said the agreement could result in “significant benefits for both parties while maintaining a focus on delivering the products and experiences our customers love.”
Neither automaker has explained why they want to cooperate now, but several potential factors, such as tariffs, could be at play. JLR does not make any vehicles in the United States and had to pay 410 million pounds ($549.3 million) in additional tariffs last year, which forced the automaker to raise prices and delivery costs.
The collaboration could include sharing technologies and platforms or rebranding products. It could also include manufacturing JLR vehicles in the US.
JRL chief PB Balaji said the collaboration with Stellantis would allow the company to “explore complementary opportunities in products and technology.” The automaker has “long-term growth plans for the US market,” which has recently become its largest market.
Filosa will present his vision for Stellantis’ recovery at the Investor Day on May 21st.
