Subaru WRX Recorded Positive Sales For The First Time In A Long While

Published

Following a significant decline in popularity last year, the Subaru WRX sports sedan is experiencing a resurgence, largely driven by strategic manufacturing adjustments and the introduction of updated trim levels.

In August, Subaru recorded 1,778 sales of the WRX sedan, representing a significant 191.0 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Consequently, year-to-date sales for the model have risen by 37.7 percent.

This sales growth can be attributed in part to the automaker’s introduction of a more accessible entry-level trim. By reintroducing the base WRX model for 2026 this past January, Subaru successfully reduced the starting price by over $5,000, a strategic move that has significantly bolstered consumer demand.

The Subaru WRX is currently on track to surpass its total sales figures from the previous year. In 2025, the company recorded 10,930 units sold, which represented a 41.2 percent decline. However, as of August, year-to-date sales for the WRX have already reached 10,324 units.

Subaru concluded the month of August with positive momentum, achieving a 1.3 percent increase in sales. While the Japanese manufacturer recorded 62,028 units sold during this period, the year-to-date performance reflects a 3.0 percent decline, with a total of 423,822 vehicles sold thus far.

Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer, Subaru of America, said:

‘Our strong performance reflects what makes Subaru unique, with a versatile lineup that delivers the safety, capability, and long-term value customers expect.’

Despite a 4.4% dip, the Crosstrek remained Subaru’s best-seller with 16,760 units, outperforming the Forester, which saw a 17.8% August surge and a 15.1% year-to-date gain. The BRZ rose 6.8% in August, while the Ascent grew 37.2% for the month and is up 2.4% year-to-date.
