US Says Putin’s Car Gift To Kim Jong-un Is A Violation Of UN Sanctions Against North Korea - autojosh

Vladimir Putin’s russian-made Aurus Senat limousine gift to North Korea’s Kim Jong-un is illegal, says US government.

Says it is a violation of UN sanctions against North Korea, which prohibit the supply of luxury goods to the nation.

The United States says that Vladimir Putin’s luxury car gift to Kim Jong-un is a violation of United Nations Security Council sanctions against North Korea, which prohibit the supply of luxury goods, including all “transportation vehicles” to the nation.

“If this is true, it would appear to be once again Russia violating UN security council resolutions that it itself supported,” United States Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said when reporters asked about the gift, adding that “I actually, frankly, didn’t know there was such a thing as a Russian luxury car.”

Vladimir Putin had last week gifted Kim Jong-un a russian-made Aurus Senat L700 limousine after the 40 year old North Korean leader liked his official luxury car during his visit to Russia last September.

The russian-made Aurus Senat limousine was delivered to Kim’s top aides by the Russian side on Sunday February 18th, according to North Korea’s official KCNA news agency.

“Kim Yo Jong (Kim’s sister) courteously conveyed Kim Jong Un’s thanks to Putin to the Russian side, saying that the gift serves as a clear demonstration of the special personal relations between the top leaders of the DPRK and Russia and as the best one,” KCNA said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later confirmed the gift, saying it :

“When the head of the DPRK (North Korea) was at the Vostochny cosmodrome, he looked at this car, Putin showed it to him personally, and like many people, Kim liked this car.”

“So this decision was made,” Peskov said, adding that “North Korea is our neighbour, our close neighbour, and we intend, and will continue, to develop our relations with all neighbours, including North Korea.”
