The VW ID.4 will be called ID from the redesign. Tiguan. Rumors have been circulating for some time, and now the workers’ union IG Metall Emden has publicly confirmed the renaming.

According to reports, the redesigned ID.4, i.e., ID. The Tiguan will be launched later this year, according to the trade union IG Metall, production ID. Tiguan production at the Emden plant will continue until the end of 2031.

The ID.4 was initially produced exclusively at the Volkswagen Group plant in Zwickau, which was fully converted to produce electric vehicles based on the MEB platform. Later, an additional production line for the ID.4 was established in Emden, initially working with internal combustion models such as the Passat and Arteon. The Arteon has since been discontinued, while the Passat has moved to Bratislava. This created space for the production of the electric ID.7 in Emden. There are also rumors about renaming this model to ID. Passat—but neither VW nor IG Metall confirmed this.

In the future, the ID will be produced exclusively in Emden. Production of the ID.4 in Zwickau is being phased out, and that plant will retain the Audi Q4 e-tron and possibly the Cupra Born and VW ID.3.

Volkswagen claims that the adoption of well-known model names with the ID prefix is intended to strengthen the emotional appeal of electric models and create a closer connection with the brand’s established models. The first model that comes with that idea is the ID. Polo, writes Automobilwoche.
