Volkswagen Pause Production Of The ID.4 Electric SUV In The US
Volkswagen has confirmed that the plant that produces the electric SUV ID.4 in the US will have to pause production. This factory is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA.
It is interesting that this interruption, as Volkswagen claims, is not related to weak demand for this SUV, but is caused by the need to “work on correcting errors.”
Namely, the Volkswagen ID.4 in the USA was diagnosed with a rather serious malfunction of the electronic door handles, which caused the doors of the electric car to open spontaneously.
The door seals allow water to pass through, causing a malfunction that forces the system to open the door. The manufacturer has been aware of this problem for a long time and three recalls have already been made, and the last one involved 98,606 copies of the ID.4. But it turned out that the problem with faulty doorknobs could not be solved even after repairs. A solution is expected to be found while production in Tennessee is on hold.
While the factory is idle, about two hundred of its workers will be sent on forced annual leave from September 23. During the “annual leave” workers will receive 80 percent of the basic salary and all benefits in full. There is no information yet on how long the break at the factory will last. Volkswagen is now also “exploring support options” for dealers unable to sell the faulty ID.4.
