Yangwang U8 Is Getting A Longer Three-Row Variant Soon
BYD’s high-end Yangwang brand is set to launch a three-row variant of the U8, an all-electric SUV with off-road capabilities that will give the likes of the Range Rover and Defender a run for their money.
The Yangwang brand debuted earlier this year with the U8 SUV and the U9 electric supercar. The five-seater SUV boasts features like “float mode” and “tank turn,” and BYD claims it can wade through deeper water than a Defender. With 1,180 horsepower on tap and 1,290 Nm of torque from its four electric motors, the U8 can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, despite its rather hefty 3,460 kg curb weight.
While the current U8 already stretches to 5,319 mm, the new three-row variant is set to be enormous. Spy shots from China reveal a longer wheelbase and rear overhang, suggesting an even more spacious interior with a possible 2+2+2 seating layout.
Inside, the U8 is a true tech lover’s dream. The current model features a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, a 23.6-inch instrument cluster, a 23.6-inch passenger screen, and dual 12.8-inch screens for rear passengers. Expect the three-row version to maintain this focus on technology and luxury.
The U8 is an EREV, combining a 49 kWh BYD Blade battery with a 1.5-litre gas-powered generator and a 75-litre fuel tank. This setup allows for an impressive CLTC range of 999 km, making it suitable for both city driving and long road trips.
The three-row U8 is expected to make its official debut at the Chengdu Motor Show on August 30. With its combination of luxury, performance, and practicality, it’s sure to turn heads and could well disrupt the luxury SUV segment.
