2021 Toyota Sienna: The Captain’s Seat And Other Seating Features

The 2021 Toyota Sienna is entering its fourth generation with a polarizing design, to say the least.

The new minivan is adopting a courageous styling. This includes aggressive creases and daring character lines, changing the overall design from the previous gen.

Its headlights and taillights are not exempt. Nor its enormous grille.

Whether you love or hate the new Sienna’s exterior, its interior is a different story; Toyota spent so much time innovating its minivan, that its cool features may encourage you to give the design a pass.

The Seating Arrangement

The newly redesigned 2021 Toyota Sienna has a standard seating capacity of eight, thanks to a second-row bench seat.

The second row  slides back 25 inches to leave room for an onboard ottoman, to an integrated vacuum cleaner.

However, starting with the XLE trim (the trim immediately after the base model LE), second-row captain’s chairs are standard.

Other comfort features available on higher 2021 Sienna trims include the synthetic leather upholstery, genuine leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated second-row seats, an 11.6-inch rear-seat entertainment system, ventilated front seats, and second-row leg rests.

 Captain’s chairs 

What are captain’s chairs? These are chairs that mimic the front row of seating by having two separated full-size seats rather than one long bench seat. It does bring down your maximum passenger capacity by one seat, but on the other hand, it will make second-row passengers more comfortable.

In fact, the captain’s chairs come with a super-long slide feature and an ottoman so that passengers can lean back and put their feet up. This feature is for XLE, XSE, and Platinum Grade edition trim levels.

Split-and-stow third-row seat 

The third row of seats, like the second row, can either sit three or two passengers depending on the configuration you choose. The three-passenger configuration includes an available split-and-stow third-row center seat. The entire third row of seating can also be folded down to make more cargo space.
