The Toyota Sienna has been around since 1998 and has spanned through four generations ever since then. In this post, you’ll see how Toyota Sienna has changed over its 22 years of existence.
The first generation Toyota Sienna came around in 1998 as a front-wheel-drive minivan. The engine for the first Sienna ever is a 3.0-liter 1MZ-FE V6 engine which produces 194 horsepower. The Sienna built on an extended platform of the Toyota Camry capitalized on Camry’s popularity and was marketed as “Camry of minivans.”
This generation came in three different trims levels – CE, LE and XLE. In the seat configuration, the LE and XLE were the same. The LE and XLE are equipped with 2nd row captain’s chairs while the CE models came with a 2nd row 2-passenger bench seat. Again, the driver side sliding door and roof rack were standard for the LE and XLE trims while it is optional for the CE trim.
The 2001 model underwent a slight refresh which includes a facelift to both front and rear fascias. It is worthy of mention to state that this generation of Sienna was notable for its impressive safety features.
The second generation Toyota Sienna was unveiled as t. It is bigger in height, width and length than the first generation Toyota Sienna. It also came with an updated engine which is a 3.3-liter 3MZ-FE V6 paired with a new five-speed automatic transmission.
The gear lever in this generation was on a center console, and no longer on the steering column as it was in the first generation. The shift pattern is also gated and it has four trim levels – CE, LE, XLE and Limited. From 2007, the engine was upgraded to a 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 engine.
The third generation Sienna premiered at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2009. It came with more appealing look and handled better than the Sienna in the previous generations. This generation presented five different trims from which buyers can make their choice. The trims are the base, LE, XLE, Limited and SE trims.
This generation of Sienna. uses the same engine as its predecessor. For the first time, a four-cylinder engine Sienna was offered.
Over the years, there were slight changes in later models of the third generation Sienna. This changes include new lights, dashboard, seats, large trapezoidal grille, other sharp lines and some other features.
Fourth Generation (2021 – )
The fourth generation Toyota Sienna will start with the all-new 2021 model. The all-new 2021 Toyota Sienna minivan features a sleek front design which was inspired by the iconic Shinkansen Japanese Bullet Train. The new car features massive front grille, sharply angled headlights, and aggressive rear fenders.
The new Sienna comes in five uniquely styled trims – LE, XLE, XSE, Platinum, and Limited, with the XSE being the sportiest of the trims.
