Tesla May Stop Making The Cybertruck As Sales Drop Again

Tesla’s shipments report revealed that Cybertruck sales have fallen to about 5,000 units per quarter, totalling around 20,000 vehicles annually, well below the planned production capacity of over 250,000 units per year.

As in previous quarters, Tesla doesn’t release individual sales figures by model, instead lumping all of its models beyond the Model 3 and Y into the “other models” category, which now includes the Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, and Tesla Semi.

In the second quarter of 2025, Tesla produced 13,409 vehicles and delivered 10,394 units, significantly lower than the peak in 2024 when Cybertruck deliveries were still underway. Sales dropped sharply in 2025, even with incentives like a $7,500 tax credit.

According to available international data, sales of the Model S and X are also declining but are still estimated at around 5,000 units per quarter, meaning the rest of the “other models,” including the Semi and Cybertruck, are likely selling at less than 6,000 units in total. This puts Cybertruck sales in Q2 2025 at around 5,000 units.

By comparison, despite a 26 percent drop in sales, Ford still sold 5,842 F-150 Lightnings in the same period, outselling the Cybertruck.

General Motors also outsold Tesla by more models on its electric pickup platform: it shipped 3,056 Silverado EVs and 1,524 GMC Sierra EVs. In addition, it also delivered 4,508 Hummer EVs, although that number includes SUV versions.

Tesla has yet to comment on the future of the Cybertruck program, but declining sales and disappointing market results, despite an aggressive campaign and incentives, call into question the viability of a project that was supposed to be a technological milestone in the electric vehicle offering.
