Volkswagen Could Be Persuaded To Sell Its Chinese Models In Europe
Volkswagen could soon start selling its electric cars developed in China on the European market. The German car giant has developed a series of new models with Chinese partners. It has been discussed for a long time whether these cars will end up on the European market. Now, in an interview with the British Autocar, the head of the Volkswagen brand, Thomas Schaefer, states that the company is preparing to bring one or more models from China to Europe.
According to Schaefer, the company has worked intensively over the past two years to reduce material and development costs for models destined for China. Volkswagen has already started using its Chinese plants to access other markets. The company now exports, among other things, to Australia, the Middle East and other markets to which it is easier to export from China than to Europe.
The next step could therefore be to offer cars to European buyers that were originally developed for the Chinese market. One possible candidate is the new Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 – a large electric sedan developed in cooperation with the Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicles, the company Xpeng. That model is part of Volkswagen’s major production offensive in China and is based on development cooperation in which Chinese technology is gaining more and more importance.
