The New Shooting Brake From Peugeot Will Not Be Available In Europe
During Auto China in Beijing this year, Peugeot presented two brand-new concept models: the Concept 6 and the Concept 8. These two concept cars showed what Peugeot had planned for China. That turned out to be quite a lot. Together with joint venture partner Dongfeng, Peugeot was to develop new models for the local market, of which the Concept 6 and Concept 8 were the first harbingers. These newcomers will not only be launched in China but must also be shipped to export markets. Contrary to what seemed logical, the European market is not included in that.
In May, Peugeot CEO Alain Favey outlined Peugeot’s plans for the coming years during the Stellantis Investor Day. In doing so, Favey also mentioned the arrival of a D-Shooting Brake on a Dongfeng platform. In other words, the production version of the Concept 6. Speaking to AutoWeek and others, Favey assured that these Peugeots, developed in collaboration with Dongfeng, will truly feel like a Peugeot but also that they will not be coming to Europe.
So what exactly is Peugeot up to in Europe? Quite a lot. In 2027, a new Peugeot e-208 based on the STLA One will arrive. This new electric e-208 will sit alongside the current 208 with combustion engines. The ‘old 208’ will continue to exist as long as there is demand for it. Something similar is expected for the Peugeot 2008. A new electric successor is coming for it, but the old 2008 will continue to exist, as it currently appears. Furthermore, Peugeot has a new 308 family ready based on the STLA One. This will enter the market with mild-hybrid petrol engines, plug-in hybrids, and electric powertrains. In the compact mid-size class in which the 308 operates, a second ‘multi-energy’ SUV is coming, which may be positioned a step below the 3008.
