The Two Military Warships Designed And Built In Nigeria (PHOTOS)
For several decades, the Nigeria military has depended on foreign nations for weapons and for driving a virile defence industry.
However, all that is gradually changing – though at a snail speed.
In recent time, Nigeria has gone into the business of home-made warships.
Specifically, the Nigeria Navy has designed and built some ‘Seaward Defense Boat’ (SUB). The ‘Seaward Defense Boat’ (SUB) is a mid-shore patrol boat something short of a deep ocean-going ship but more capable than a coastal patrol boat.
This warship-building capacity of the Nigerian Navy is a demonstration of how far we can go as a nation if we believe in our potentials.
In this article, we throw our spotlight on two warships designed and built by the Nigerian Navy.
NNS Andoni (P-100)

NNS Adoni (P100) is the first locally built Seaward Defense Boat (SDB) by the Nigerian Navy,
It is the first of 3 vessels in its class, with each vessel a larger variant of the previous one.
Vice Admiral GTA Adekeye and Rear Admiral GJ Jonah, who were at the time Chief of Naval Staff and Chief of Naval Engineering respectively, conceived and developed the project. It took five years of work to complete the project.

Its armament includes a manned 30mm main gun, two 12.7mm and two 40mm AGL. It also has an RHIB embarked.
The design, the expertise and about 60% of the materials used to build it were locally sourced. The engines, generators and navigation equipment were imported.
President Goodluck Jonathan launched NNS Andoni (P-100) on 7 June 2012. The ship was named after the Andoni people of Southern Nigeria.
NNS Karaduwa (P102)

NNS Karaduwa (P102) is a 40-meter Seaward defence boat.
The Nigeria Navy, in collaboration with Dorman Long Engineering, fabricated the ship. It is about 40m long and can do 39 knots (45 mph; 72 km/h) with ease, a necessity when chasing marauding sea criminals.

Its armament panoply also reflects its role. It is fitted with a 30mm remotely operated gun. It also has two 12.4mm multi-purpose heavy machine guns. Also included is a 40mm grenade launcher for taking out hostile speed boats.
President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned NNS Karaduwa on 15 December 2016
