Super Cruise ‘Hands-free Driving’ Option For 2022 Cadillac Escalade Suspended Due To Chip Shortage

Super Cruise ‘hands-free driving feature’ suspended on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade SUV due to global chip shortage.

The Super Cruise, an option for latest Cadillac Escalade, allows you to drive the SUV without touching the steering wheel.

The driver assistance tech enables hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of compatible highways.

Cadillac has temporarily cut out the Super Cruise option for the 2022 Escalade SUV due to the global semiconductor (microchip) shortage that has temporarily halted the production of vehicles across automaker’s plants.

In a statement sent to Motor1, a Cadillac representative explained that the :

“Super Cruise is an important feature for the Cadillac Escalade program. Although it’s temporarily unavailable at the start of regular production due to the industry-wide shortage of semiconductors, we’re confident in our team’s ability to find creative solutions to mitigate the supply chain situation and resume offering the feature for our customers as soon as possible.”

The Super Cruise, an option for latest Cadillac Escalade, is a semi-autonomous driving feature which allows you to drive the SUV without touching the steering wheel.

The driver assistance tech, designed to rival Tesla Autopilot, enables hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of compatible highways in the United States and Canada.

It uses LiDAR map data, high-precision GPS, a state-of-the-art driver attention system and a network of cameras and radar sensors, to monitor traffic and road conditions.

The redesigned new-generation Cadillac Escalade sports an Escala-inspired interior that is loaded with advanced tech,  including an industry-first 38-inch OLED screen.

Powering it is 6.2-liter V8 engine that is also found in the Escalade ESV. The petrol engine produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Back in June, US automaker Cadillac revealed it can’t keep up with the demand for the range-topping 2021 Escalade Platinum SUV, despite its $102,290 starting price.

Cadillac says the demand has forced it to work day and night to fulfill orders, adding that new orders are still coming in from wealthy customers around the world.
