Another Recall For Ford As Nearly 3 Million Cars Are Affected

Ford this week issued a recall for approximately 3 million vehicles. The vehicles do not have a specific set of build dates, and they include sedans, SUVs and vans. The list includes the 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge models.
According to a Ford recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission could degrade or detach in the affected vehicles. Ford said the root cause of this defect is unknown.
This is the fifth recall made by Ford this month alone but the fix is not as difficult as initially expected. Many mechanics were already fixing the issues for a low fee. Owners of affected vehicles might not have to leave their cars for more than a couple of hours at the service station.
To fix this problem, Ford dealers will replace the bushing with a part that’s a different material with a heat stabilizer. The vehicles will also receive a protective cap over the shift cable bushing. The automaker will begin contacting owners of affected vehicles by mail starting June 27. All repairs will be provided free of charge and owners who fixed this issue on their own dime will be compensated.
Ford is aware of 1,630 warranty claims related to this issue as well as six reports of property damage and four reports of injury that could be related to this issue.
