After 47 Years, Ford Fiesta Set To Be Discontinued In 2023

Ford confirms that the Fiesta supermini will be discontinued next year in June 2023, after 47 years production.
More than 20 million Ford Fiestas have been built since its introduction in 1976 as a fuel-efficient subcompact “global car”.
Fiesta debuted in response to OPEC oil crisis and fuel efficient competitors such as VW Polo, Honda Civic and Renault 5.
Ford Motors has officially announced that one of its best-selling model, the Ford Fiesta, will be discontinued next year, as the company ‘accelerates’ its plans to become fully electric.
The Fiesta nameplate will have been in production for 47 years when the last units rolls of the assembly line at the brand’s factory in Cologne, Germany, by the end of June 2023.
More than 20 million of the Fiesta have since been built for customers worldwide since its introduction 47 years ago as a fuel-efficient subcompact “global car”.
The Ford Fiesta debuted in 1976 in response to the OPEC oil crisis and fuel efficient competitors such as the Volkswagen Polo, Honda Civic and Renault 5.

In a statement, Ford said:
“At Ford in Europe, we are accelerating our efforts to go all-in on electrification with our passenger vehicles being fully electric by 2030 – and all vehicles across our Ford portfolio by 2035.”
“As we get ready to transition to an electric future, we will discontinue production of S-Max and Galaxy in Valencia, Spain in April 2023 and discontinue Fiesta production in Cologne, Germany by end of June 2023.”
The company’s official Twitter account posted:
“It’s time to say goodbye to the little car that has touched us all.
“The big moments, the little moments, and all the ‘firsts’ – thanks for the memories.”
Ford has sold some 20 million units worldwide over its 47-year, seven-generation lifespan. In addition to the fuel-efficient base model, the Fiesta has been produced in performance variants like the Fiesta ST and Fiesta XR2.
