2024 BMW X5 Protection VR6 Arrives As 530-hp Armor-plated SUV - autojosh

2024 BMW X5 Protection VR6 arrives as 530-horsepower armor-plated ultra-luxury SUV.

Latest-gen X5 Protection VR6 will be presented to the public for the first time at the IAA Mobility 2023.

German luxury marque, BMW AG, has introduced the 2024 BMW X5 Protection VR6, which is the latest version of the brand’s “most powerful, most dynamic and worldwide biggest-selling vehicle of its kind”.

The new edition of the BMW X5 Protection VR6 will be presented to the public for the first time at the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich, along with the new 7 Series Protection and the first-ever i7 Protection.

The latest version of the X5 Protection VR6 meets VPAM ballistics requirements. It has high-strength steel in key areas such as the doors, side frame, bulkhead, and roof, while the cargo area incorporates an armored partition.

In addition, the X5 Protection VR6 has a self-sealing fuel tank with a special casing as standard, which seals itself after being hit by a bullet to prevent any loss of fuel.

Standard security features includes heating function for the windscreen, an electrically operated windows in the front and an intercom system for communicating with people on the outside.

Further bespoke equipment features include flashing LED lights in the radiator grille, flashing rear lights, roof-mounted light beacons and flag poles for official occasions.

Inside, the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is also now equipped with the digital BMW Curved Display, which consists of a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches.

Powering the revised armored model is the newly developed S68 engine, a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 530 horsepower (390 kilowatts) and 750 Newton-meters (553 pound-feet) of torque.

While the civilian version of the X5 M60i sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds and has a top-speed of 155 mph (250 km/h), the armored model does this in 5.9 seconds before reaching a limited top-speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).
