Prospeed Motorsport, a company based in the United Kingdom (UK), has developed a Toyota Hilux pickup truck-based six-wheeled Rapid Response Vehicle specifically designed to fight Electric Vehicle (EV) fires.
Called the 6×6 Hiload, the six-wheeled Hilux-based 6×6 fire truck’s converted chassis adds 1,230mm (48 inches) to fit the three axles and two additional wheels – allowing a payload capacity of 3,000 kg (6,613 pounds).
Upgrades include an arsenal of fire fighting equipment, including a Coldcut Cobra system designed to put out an EV fire in around 10 minutes while only using 240 litres (or about 63 gallons) of water.
“We have developed the HILOAD system as a high payload, high load-space and high mobility upgrade to a Toyota Hilux”, say Prospeed Motorsport.
In addition to putting out EV fires , the 6×6 Hiload is designed for other uses — from military motor pools to wild fires. It can also be used in urban underground and multi-storey car parks with 190cm height limits.
“Unlocking the capability of the showroom 4×4. Applications for HILOAD include wildfire, light utility for the military user and industrial applications.”
Currently being used by one EV carmaker in its firefighting fleet, the six-wheeled fire truck based on the indestructible Toyota Hilux truck is currently being trialed in the Czech Republic.
