Nigeria Police Bars Private Vehicle Registration Platform, VReg, From Carrying Out Police Duties
Nigeria Police Force (NPF) bars private Vehicle Registration Platform, ‘VReg’, from carrying out its duties.
NPF says motor vehicle registration and licensing are within the purview of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has barred private vehicle registration platform, VReg, from carrying out tasks that are solely within the authority of the Nigerian Police Central Motor Registry (CMR).
The Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made this known at a news conference at the state command headquarters in Ikeja, stressed that VReg’s unlawful operations must stop immediately.
He said :
“It is imperative to address certain issues in motor vehicle administration. The Nigeria Police Force’s Central Motor Registry (CMR) is a dedicated platform entrusted with specific functions that cannot be carried out by any other entity outside our institution.
“We have recently received intelligence regarding the existence of a platform called VReg, allegedly operated by a private company engaged in performing NPF CMR duties. This practice must cease immediately, as there is no legislative framework guiding such establishment.
“Motor vehicle registration and licensing are within the purview of the Nigeria Police Force, as our role is to acquire essential vehicle data for our repository, vital for national security.”
Adejobi said by giving thorough vehicle details and status, the Nigerian Police Central Motor Registry (CMR) system plays a critical role in preventing crime as it supports police operations and efforts toward enhancing national security.
