Accidented/Seized Vehicles At Police Station Not Our Fault, Road Crashes Kill More Nigerians Than Insecurity — Force PRO
Avoidable road crashes kill more innocent Nigerians than insecurity — Nigerian Police Force PRO reveals.
He also revealed that accidented/seized vehicles at police stations are due to legal issue and not solely police’s fault.
Notes that in Dubai, drivers are not reckless on the road, and you can’t drive in without being certified and licensed, unlike in Nigeria.
The Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has revealed that road crashes in the country claim more lives of innocent Nigerians than insecurity, based on the records available to the police.
Adejobi made this known while replying an X (Twitter) user who urged the IGP Kayode Egbetokun to observe the organisation of police stations in Dubai, including the absence of accidents and seized vehicles.
“Nice one, please if he’s still there, can he kindly go around and see how organised their police stations are. That it is not littered with accident and seized vehicles? We can do better in this country please. Thank you sir!,” the X user wrote.
The Twitter made the request while replying to Adejobi’s tweet on Wednesday, where he shared pictures of IGP Kayode Egbetokun at the World’s Police Summit in Dubai :
“IGP at the Worlds Police Summit in Dubai, UAE. He represents Nigeria and West Africa,” Adejobi’s earlier post reads while announcing the news.
In his response, Adejobi emphasizes that accidented and seized vehicles at police stations are due to legal issue, often due to reckIess driving, and not solely police’s fault.
He wrote :
“Stations littered with accident(ed) and seized vehicles are not the fault of the police. It’s a legal matter and, in most cases, reckless nature of some Nigerian drivers.”
“In Dubai, they are not reckless on the road, and you can’t drive in Dubai without being certified and licenced. This is common in Nigeria.”
“The citizens comply and respect the law in Dubai. Many of us in Nigeria deliberately disregard and disobey the law.”
“They don’t record many road crashes as we do here and be guided that the police can’t dispose of these vehicles without a court order.”
“Note again that the rate at which we kill ourselves through road crashes is alarming. I know, and based on records we keep, that road crashes claim more lives of innocent Nigerians than the acclaimed insecurity sagas in the country.”
