Nigerian Police Suspends E-motor Registry (e-CMR) Enforcement Following Public Outcry

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate suspension of the proposed enforcement of the the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR), initially scheduled to commence on the 29th of July, 2024.

The suspension of the enforcement of the e-CMR follows the public outcry from Nigerian motorists, who accused the Nigerian Police Force of creating an opportunity to extort vehicle owners.

But a statement by the NPF on Sunday July 14th noted that the e-CMR is not a revenue generating platform but an initiative to digitalize policing for effectiveness and general safety of lives and property of Nigeria residents.

Sanwo-Olu Signs New LAGRIDE Partnership With CIG Motors For Acquisition Of 5,000 Vehicles

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday July 15th 2024 supervised the signing of a Joint Venture partnership between IBILE Holdings Limited and CIG Motors Company Limited for the acquisition of 5,000 brand new vehicles.

The new partnership will see CIG Motors Company Limited deliver 2,000 brand new vehicles in the coming weeks in first phase while the rest will be delivered in tranches.

“Our new fleet will have 1,000 electric vehicles, demonstrating a commitment to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and pruning the carbon footprint,” Sanwo-Olu said in a statement on his official X page.

LASG Introduces E-call Up System For Lekki-Epe Corridor To Manage Articulated Trucks Movement

The Lagos State Government is set to introduce an electronic call-up system to ease and manage articulated trucks movement within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor, starting from August 1st 2024.

The application of an e-call-up system is expected to avert congestion by articulated trucks and improve the efficiency of logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the move is driven by the urgent need to implement a sustainable, effective and technology-driven solution of truck movement in the Lekki-Epe Corridor.

Lagos Court Orders Final Forfeiture of 20 Luxury Cars Stolen From Canada – See The Car Models

Justice Deinde Isaac Dipeolu of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday July 15th 2024 ordered the final forfeiture of 20 exotic cars stolen from Canada to Nigeria.

The Judge gave the order following a motion on notice filed by antigraft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The 20 luxury vehicles, which are forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria, are part of the over 350 vehicles stolen from Canada. Justice Deinde Isaac Dipeolu, had in March 2024 ordered the final forfeiture of another 36 exotic cars allegedly stolen from Canada to Nigeria.
