Geely Set To Develop A New Generation Of Plug-In Hybrid Systems With A Range Of 2000 Km

Geely CEO Gan Jiayue revealed that a new generation of plug-in hybrid systems called Thor will be launched within a year.

The Geely boss promised a thermal efficiency of 46% with an average fuel consumption of less than 3.0 l per 100 kilometres travelled. In the best case, the system will enable autonomy of more than 2000 kilometres in a combined cycle (electricity + gasoline).

The next-generation Thor system is believed to debut in the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 SUV (pictured). According to the official technical sheet data, which was reported to the Chinese authorities, some features are already known. Namely, the vehicle will be equipped with a 1.5-litre BHE15-BFN engine with a maximum power of 82 kW. Of course, there is also an electric motor and battery with LFP chemistry provided by SVOLT or Sunwoda Electronic. Although performance figures have yet to be released, Geely hopes to outperform BYD’s similar system.

Last May, BYD announced the launch of the fifth generation of its plug-in hybrid system. The equipment includes a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a power of 74 kW, slightly less than the Geely version. This motor works with an electric motor and LFP batteries. Consumption is 2.9 litres per 100 kilometres with a total autonomy of 2100 kilometres.
