China EV Sales Rosed By More Than 40 Percent Last Year
Sales of all types of electric vehicles in China rose by more than 40 percent last year, while sales of gasoline cars declined, industry data showed.
A total of 31.4 million vehicles, including buses and trucks, were sold last year, an increase of 4.5 percent from a year earlier, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said.
Sales growth outpaced production growth, which increased by 3.7 percent.
Passenger car exports rose nearly 20 percent in 2024, to nearly 5 million vehicles, contributing to the sharp rise in China’s overall exports.
The expansion of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers has unsettled automakers in the US and Europe.
The US last year imposed a 100 percent tariff on electric cars made in China, and the European Union also imposed new tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, saying the Chinese auto industry had benefited from unfair government subsidies.
