The Mayon Or Barnato Are Two Possible Names For Bentley’s Electric SUV

Published

on

In November of last year, Bentley officially announced an all-electric SUV model (“the world’s first luxury urban SUV”), and in the meantime, information about its possible name also appeared.

The British media are now mentioning the names Mayon and Barnato, which were recently registered.

Mayon (after the active Mayon volcano in the Philippines) hints at the “explosive” dynamics of the electric drive, while Barnato is the surname of Wolf Barnato, one of the “Bentley Boys” of the 1920s and a three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

As it is said, the novelty will be smaller than the very popular Bentayga model and will be shown in 2026.

New Details Of The SUV Unveiled

CEO Frank-Stephen Walliser previously offered a few more details about the new EV in an interview with Auto Express. He said the new EV will be less than five meters long, which he said is “a bit more compact for a Bentley.” That means potential rivals include the BMW iX and the next-generation Porsche Cayenne.

“The concept is super versatile,” he added. “You can use it for long distances, or you can use it in the city. We also want to attract new customers, and we think with that concept, it adds something new for Bentley.” He also made it clear that this is not a replacement for anything in the company’s current range.

Bentley’s chief executive didn’t reveal too many technical details but described the range as “definitely sufficient,” while engineering chief Matthias Rabe believes the team has found the right balance between range and charging speed.

Testing is well underway, and Rabe adds: “It will be pure Bentley, with increased comfort and agility.”

The teaser that Bentley released earlier doesn’t reveal much about the design, although the silhouette isn’t dramatically different from the Bentayga, showing a long hood, pronounced rear fenders, and a sloping rear window.

The Bentley electric SUV will likely be built on the Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform, which was jointly developed by Porsche and Audi.
