Nissan Sold 1,613,797 Vehicles In H1 2025, Aims To Reduce Global Production Capacity To 2.5 Million Units

Nissan recorded global production of 1,439,040 vehicles in the first half of the year while global sales reached 1,613,797 units.

Struggling brand aims to reduce its global production capacity from 3.5 million units (excluding China) to 2.5 million units.

Japanese brand said that the move is part of its global production restructuring under the Re:Nissan recovery plan.

Struggling Japanese brand, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. recorded global production of 1,439,040 (-10.8%) vehicles in the first half of the year (H1) while global sales during this period reached 1,613,797 units (-5.7%).

Sales outside Japan in June and H1 reached 227,098 (-5.1%) and 1,393,377 (-4.9%) respectively, led by the U.S market with 71,920 (-11.6%) vehicles in June and 488,526 units (-0.2%) between January and June.

In June, production outside home country of Japan reached 204,089 (+4.5%) vehicles and 1,147,267 (-10.8%) units in the first half of the year, led globally by its facility in Mexico with 59,112 (-2.2%) units in June and 341,530 (+0.3%) vehicles in H1 2025.

As part of its global production restructuring under the Re:Nissan recovery plan, Nissan aims to reduce its global production capacity from 3.5 million units (excluding China) to 2.5 million units.

To achieve this, Nissan announced it will transition all vehicle production in Mexico to Aguascalientes complex during fiscal year 2025 (ending March 2026), ceasing operations at the CIVAC Plant in Morelos.

Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said :

“… We have made the difficult but necessary decision, that will allow us to become more efficient, more competitive, and more sustainable. Throughout this transition, we remain deeply appreciative of the invaluable contributions made by our collaborators at the CIVAC Plant.”
