A Basic Feature That The Canyon Should Have Had Years Ago Is Finally Being Added By GMC
The 2027 GMC Canyon will finally feature a universal garage-door opener, addressing a notable convenience gap compared to its rivals, the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma.
Citing reports from GM Authority, the 2027 GMC Canyon will introduce a universal garage-door opener, a significant addition that enhances convenience for daily use and professional hauling. This feature eliminates the necessity for handheld remotes, allowing for seamless integration with residential and commercial entry systems.
The 2027 GMC Canyon adds a universal garage-door opener, allowing control of up to three devices via built-in buttons. It also gains 5G connectivity for faster data and improved Wi-Fi hotspot performance, powered by an OnStar subscription.
These enhancements will also be featured in the 2027 Chevrolet Colorado. Both trucks are expected to be equipped with an upgraded 2.7-liter turbocharged L4B inline-four engine, which is anticipated to surpass the performance of the outgoing L3B engine—currently rated at 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
Official pricing for the 2027 GMC Canyon has not yet been disclosed. The vehicle is expected to retain the GM 31XX-2 platform and will continue to be manufactured at the automaker’s Wentzville Assembly plant in Missouri. These updates signify the first midcycle refresh for the current third-generation Canyon.
Given the scope of these enhancements, a potential price increase is anticipated. For context, the 2026 Canyon currently starts at $38,900 for the Elevation trim, excluding destination charges. The off-road-oriented AT4X trim is priced at $57,300, while the comfort-focused Denali trim begins at $53,300.
