Customers Are Still Not Interested In Electric Vehicles
While the European Union plans to ban the sale of new fossil fuel vehicles by 2035, research by carVertical shows that as many as 51.5% of buyers would not consider buying an electric car at present, and only 12.2% would be open to it.
Driver preferences remain firmly on the side of conventional fuels—43.8% of respondents prefer gasoline and 38.9% diesel, while only 5.6% choose electric propulsion.
Among those considering electric vehicles, the primary motives are lower maintenance costs (47.2%), lower taxes (17.6%), and government subsidies (14.1%). Interestingly, only 14% of respondents cite environmental reasons as a motive for purchasing.
The main reasons against buying electric vehicles are the high price (32%), concerns about range (26.7%), and poor charging infrastructure (21.1%).
The removal of government incentives in countries like Sweden and Germany has already resulted in a significant decline in electric vehicle sales. Matas Buzelis, automotive expert at carVertical, warns, “Government incentives are an expensive way to increase electric vehicle sales, but the real problem is sustainability.”
Major automakers are announcing significant job cuts due to market changes. At the same time, Chinese manufacturers like BYD are seeing strong growth in Europe, even surpassing Tesla in electric vehicle sales in some markets.
