Stellantis is in crisis. After a disastrous 2025, when the company was recently forced to take a huge €22.2 billion write-down, management is looking for fresh capital.

According to Bloomberg, top management met with Chinese automakers Xiaomi and Xpeng to lure them into investing in the struggling European factory and Stellantis brands.

Most notably, Stellantis is reportedly ready to sell part of Maserati. The Italian luxury brand has struggled with profitability, and by bringing in Chinese partners, it hopes to gain not only cash but also access to the latest software and battery technology, areas where Chinese brands currently lead the way.

For Xiaomi and Xpeng, such a deal would be a shortcut past new European customs barriers that have been put in place against Chinese electric cars. By owning parts of Stellantis’ factories in Europe, they can manufacture their cars locally and thus avoid fines.

However, Stellantis itself denies the report. A spokesperson for the group calls it pure fantasy and claims that discussions with other industry players are part of normal business.
