Maserati Cancels Electric MC20 Supercar

Maserati has decisively announced the cancellation of the MC20 Folgore electric supercar project.
A company spokesperson told Top Gear that the project was canceled due to a lack of demand in the super sports car segment. This means there wasn’t enough interest to guarantee the project’s profitability.
Three electric motors with a combined output of more than 700 hp were reportedly planned, while acceleration to 100 km/h would be two seconds.
The company added that it remains committed to electric mobility and already offers a mix of BEV, MHEV, and SUS models designed to meet the diverse needs of customers and markets. As the only luxury brand within Stellantis, Maserati continues to focus on and invest in innovation, performance, and Italian craftsmanship.
It should be recalled that Maserati had very poor sales last year. The brand recorded a drop of as much as 57 percent in 2024. Deliveries were reduced from 26,600 cars in 2023 to just 11,300 units last year.
Before resigning as head of all of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares blamed poor marketing for the sales slump. In an interview last month, newly appointed Maserati CEO Santo Ficilli estimated that the company would still be in the red this year but hoped to be profitable by 2026.
