Modern vehicles are increasingly burdened by excessive technology and gimmicks, which often compromise functionality and reliability rather than improving the driving experience.

Although door handles and entry mechanisms should represent some of the most fundamental features of an automobile, they have recently become a contentious focal point within the industry. Automakers are increasingly focused on reinventing these systems; however, this trend often prioritizes novelty over reliability, resulting in significant user inconvenience and, in more severe instances, critical safety concerns.

The $2 million Rimac Nevera sets the benchmark for EV performance, yet such a premium investment carries an expectation of flawless, consistent reliability that remains essential for owners.

A viral Instagram post by user harisraja7861 highlights a rather unfortunate incident involving a Rimac Nevera owner who found himself unable to access his vehicle. The footage documents the owner’s prolonged struggle to operate the car’s door, which remained unresponsive even after he attempted to utilize the key fob. Following a significant delay, the owner eventually succeeded in gaining entry, reportedly after contacting Rimac CEO Mate Rimac directly for assistance.

The cause of the door failure is unknown, turning a simple task into a lockout. This highlights a broader issue: as electronic handles and latches face increased regulatory scrutiny, their complexity poses safety risks, sometimes trapping occupants after accidents. While some manufacturers are returning to reliable, mechanical designs, others continue to prioritize experimental technology over proven safety standards.
