Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Sets A Production Cars’ Fastest Quarter-Mile Record (Video)
The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut has set multiple world records, recently surpassing the Rimac Nevera R in acceleration and braking. On June 6, Sweden’s National Day, Koenigsegg returned to Ängelholm with the Jesko Absolut, named after founder Jesko von Koenigsegg’s father, aiming to be the fastest Koenigsegg.
Test driver Markus Lundh achieved two records in a new video, with Racelogic VBox confirming the Jesko Absolut as the fastest production car over both the quarter-mile and half-mile.
The Jesko Absolut raced past the finish line at 305 km/h (190 mph) in just 8.54 seconds. That’s historic, not just fast. In the quarter-mile, no other production vehicle has ever reached 300 km/h. The Jesko wasn’t done flaunting himself, though. It maintained its pace throughout the half-mile, reaching 373 km/h (232 mph) in a mere 12.76 seconds. Just like that, another record.
The Jesko Absolut outperforms several very powerful players based on those figures. For a while now, the Rimac Nevera has dominated the straight-line market, and Chevy’s new Corvette ZR1X has also caused a stir, at least for an American brand. Koenigsegg now has the quickest verified half-mile and quarter-mile runs ever recorded by a production vehicle.
The Jesko’s method of execution is even more bizarre. This beast used rear-wheel drive, standard production tyres, and an unprepared runway instead of all-wheel drive and sticky drag strips. Just pure speed, no trickery.
There was more to the record run than just a flex. Koenigsegg claims that new software adjustments were the key to the record-breaking figures. Additionally, they are using over-the-air upgrades to provide the update to all Jesko Absolut owners rather than keeping the magic to themselves. Therefore, if you’re among the 1% of people who already have one in a multi-car, temperature-controlled warehouse, you may be about to get even faster—no wrenches needed.
Already, the Jesko Absolut is on par with the best hypercars. A 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that can produce up to 1,600 horsepower on E85 is located under the hood. In contrast to the track-hungry Jesko Attack, the Absolut forgoes downforce in favour of slick aerodynamics and even higher top speed.
